BPB Limburg Open 2019
Friday 4 January 2019
The organization of the BPB Limburg Open wishes you a very happy 2019. Of course in good health, but also with beautiful moves in beautiful games. For the latter you will have ample opportunity in the BPB Limburg Open from 7 to 10 June. Make a note of these dates in your calendar!
Like last year the tournament will be held in Sporthal De Geusselt, a modern sports venue that opened in 2017. This year the tournament is under the leadership of Barry Braeken, our new tournament director. After the 12th BPB Limburg Open we had to say goodbye to tournament director Ferry Gerard, who was in charge for four years but had to resign his commission because he had accepted a position on the island of Bonaire. We are very grateful to Ferry for all the work he has done for the BPB Limburg Open.
Barry Braeken has extensive managerial experience (a.o. as director of education and as alderman of the municipality of Heerlen), is a chess enthusiast and has a large network. He is undoubtedly capable to ensure the continuity of our tournament that has a permanent place on the national and international chess calendars. Barry lives in Heerlen, is 43 years old, married and father of a son.
The 12th BPB Limburg Open attracted 457 participants in 2018 (among whom 9 grandmasters) from 20 countries. This makes us one of the bigger tournaments in Europe. We can not wait to welcome you again from 7 to 10 June in the beautiful city of Maastricht!
