Limburg Open canceled

Monday 23 March 2020
Dear chessfriends.

Our 14th BPB Limburg Open chess tournament cannot take place. We decided this on Monday evening, March 23, following the decision of the Dutch government earlier this evening that all meetings until 1 June 2020 will be prohibited due to the coronavirus.

Our tournament (scheduled from May 29 to June 1, 2020) falls within this period.

So for us there is nothing more than to cancel the tournament for this year.
Many already felt this coming. In the last few weeks, hardly anyone registered and as organization team we also started to take cancellation into account.

Because we have a unique four-day tournament formula, it is not possible yo plan another period this year.

Those who signed up will receive a personal message. Those who have already paid the registration fee will of course receive this back. We will handle this carefully. Because carefulness is more important then speed, it may take a moment. We ask for understanding and patience. You can trust it will be fine.

It is not nice to cancel the tournament, but there is no choice because health is more important and many people worldwide die from the coronavirus. We have to put things into perspective, and we say: we look ahead and invite everyone for the 14th BPB Limburg Open in the Whitsun weekend of 2021.

We have one of Europe′s largest, best and most enjoyable tournaments and that in the wonderful, historic and exuberant city of Maastricht with its beautiful surroundings.
Only…. not now.

Best regards and stay healthy!
